The fake "ETH" on Robinhood Chain: 1.44 ETH that isn't there

On 6 October 2026 a wallet app showed one of its users 1.44 ETH, worth about 3,500 USD, on Robinhood Chain. The block explorer showed a native balance of 0 ETH. We read the transaction straight from the chain: a token named "Ethereum" with the symbol "ETH" was sent to 300 wallets in a single call. The amount in the app was a token, not ETH.

Read this first: the chain data below was read from the public Robinhood Chain network on 10 October 2026 and can be checked on the block explorer. The case came from a reader whose own wallet was one of the recipients; we do not show that address. The chain shows addresses, not people, and we do not name or accuse anyone.

What the app showed and what the chain says

Wallet app Block explorer
Balance 1.44 "ETH", about 3,500 USD 0 ETH ($0)
Tokens listed as ETH 1 token, worth $0.00
History no "Received" entry 0 transactions, 1 token transfer
Warning the app marked it as not the original —

The token

Contract: 0x02865C612393CeB2482FDc08FB30fCE113305d12 (read from the contract itself).

  • Name: "Ethereum", symbol: "ETH", 18 decimals, total supply 1,000,000,000.
  • It is an ordinary token contract. Real ETH on this chain is the native currency and has no contract address.

The transfer: 300 wallets in one transaction

Recipients 300 transfers to 300 different addresses
Amounts between 1.00 and 2.00 tokens each, 96 different values, about 444 tokens in total

The amounts are varied on purpose, it seems: at the ETH price the explorer showed on 10 October (about 2,490 USD), 1 to 2 "ETH" looks like a plausible balance of roughly 2,500 to 5,000 USD, which is what an app that prices tokens by their symbol would display.

The sending address has made 1,070 transactions on this chain and holds about 0.004 ETH. We did not analyse its other transactions.

Why the app shows it as ETH

A token can call itself anything. Some wallet apps look up a price by the token's symbol, so a token whose symbol is "ETH" can be shown with the value of real ETH. A block explorer separates the native balance from tokens and prices unknown tokens at zero. Receiving a token needs no action from you, so there is no "Received" entry and no transaction from your own address.

How to check it in two minutes

  1. Open your address on the chain's block explorer.
  2. Look at the Balance at the top. That is your real ETH.
  3. Open Tokens and Token transfers. A token has a contract address and an amount.
  4. If Balance is 0 ETH and Tokens is 1 or more, the number in your app is a token.

What to do

  • Hide the token in your wallet app.
  • Do not try to swap, send or sell it, and do not open links or "claim" pages connected to it.
  • Do not sign anything you do not understand. Receiving a token does not take anything from your wallet; the risk starts when you act on it. See fake airdrops and spam NFTs and unlimited token approvals.

What we cannot see

  • Who controls the sending address. The chain shows addresses, not identities.
  • What the lure is. The transfer itself carries no message or link. If a page or contact is attached to it, we have not seen it.
  • Whether anyone lost funds because of this token.
  • What the contracts do beyond what we called. We did not analyse their code.

Hopchain does not cover Robinhood Chain yet; the addresses above can be checked on the chain's block explorer. For addresses on supported chains, paste them on the home page.

Frequently asked questions

Why does my wallet show ETH on Robinhood Chain that I never received?
Most likely a token named Ethereum with the symbol ETH was sent to your address. Wallet apps can price a token by its symbol, so it is shown with the value of real ETH. On the block explorer the native balance is 0 ETH and the token has no value.

How can I tell whether it is real ETH or a fake token?
Open your address on the chain's block explorer. Real ETH is the native balance shown at the top. A token appears under Tokens or Token transfers and has a contract address. If the native balance is 0 and the Tokens count is 1 or more, the amount you see in the wallet app is a token, not ETH.

What should I do if I received it?
Do nothing with it. Hide the token, do not try to swap, send or sell it, do not open links or claim pages that appear to be connected to it, and do not sign anything. Receiving a token does not take anything from your wallet.

Who sent the fake ETH token?
The blockchain shows which address sent it, not who controls that address. We name the sending address and the contract, and make no claim about the people behind them.
